FCT police reward 29 children of slain officers

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command on Wednesday rewarded 29 children of slain policemen with life insurance cash benefits of their fathers who died in active service.

The reward was in line with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba, who ordered that cheques be presented to the deceased families of 29 police officers who died while serving the nation.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Babaji Sunday, alongside the Deputy Commissioner of Police, presented the cheques to the beneficiaries on Wednesday at the Police Command Headquarters in Abuja.

Babaji praised the IGP for assisting in reducing the hardship faced by families of the deceased police officers.

He said, “This gesture was part of the IGP’s Group Life Assurance aimed at improving the welfare of the families of deceased police officers.
“Also, the gesture is aimed at spurring officers to greatness while discharging their statutory duties with the assurance that their welfare is of paramount importance to the administration of the force.

“There is no greater honour than that of serving one’s nation with sweat, love and blood. Today, we can forge ahead because of the great sacrifices of our heroes and on whose strength we are here to celebrate.”

He stated further that the beneficiaries are families of deceased officers who lost their lives in active service from 2021 to date.
