2023 Election: DSS Moves To Curtail Fake News, Exploitation Of CSOs
The Director-General of the Department of State Services, Alhaji Yusuf M. Bichi, has pleaded with Nigeria’s civil society organizations to work together with security agencies to make the country safer and better.
The DGSS made the appeal today in Abuja, while opening a one-day brainstorming session between agency officials and civil society organizations on the theme “Civil Society and National Security in Nigeria,” which was attended by a cross-section of human rights organizations, non-governmental organizations, media leaders, and rights activists from across the country.
Alhaji Bichi, who was represented by the National Director in Charge of Administration, Alhaji Kabir Sani also urged Civil Society Organizations and other Non-State Actors not to allow themselves to be used by external forces to harm Nigeria, but rather to work with Nigeria to address its problems.
The Head of the Secret Police also urged CSOs to take the lead in combating fake news and hate speech in Nigeria, which he says has become more concerning in recent years and is capable of exacerbating insecurity and other forms of threats.
